Bath Blend of the Month - Scented Bath Bubbles

This is the sixth month of sharing Bath Recipes from the Vault. As I sort through my files of saved recipes, I am sharing those that are seasonally perfect for your bath.
If you enjoy making your own blends for the bath, I suggest taking a look at Natural Beauty at Home or Natural Beauty from the Garden by Janice Cox.  There are also many good bath blends in Phyllis Schaudy's The Pleasure of Herbs.

Here’s an easy recipe that can be customized to your own preference by combining favorite scents.  It is perfect for those with sensative skin becasue it ditches harsh perfumes and chemicals that some commercial ones contain.

So after a day of getting dirty in the garden relax in a tub of bubbles with this great recipe.
Scented Bath Bubbles
  • 1/2 bar of castile soap  (2 ounces)
  • 2 Tbls liquid vegetable glycerin (2 ounces)
2 cups distilled water (16 ounces)
  • 5 to 10 drops essential oils (lavender, orange, etc.) to desired strength

  • Directions:
Shave the bar into a bowl then mix in a pint of warm, distilled water and liquid glycerin. Stir to combine well. Allow to sit until the shavings are soft then stir with a wooden spoon to mix smooth. Stir in favorite essential oils then pour into glass mason jars, seal with lid.
To use:  Pour about 4 to 6 Tbls. into warm running water.  Enjoy the water and the bubbles.
You can even make this as a gift.  Just label the jar with the ingredients and decorate with raffia, ribbon, charms or whatever embellishments desired.  A bit of food coloring makes it interesting but is not required.
